Do personal injury attorneys handle property damage claims?

The short answer to this question is yes, but only under certain circumstances.

Personal injury lawyers often handle property damage claims, but typically only as part of a personal injury case. They generally do not handle “property damage only” claims in cases with no physical injuries.

Key Considerations

Case Combination: If you are injured in a car crash, your attorney will usually manage your car repairs or replacement alongside your bodily injury claim to ensure all damages are covered. If you are in your home and you are injured by a vehicle crashing into the house, your lawyer will include damages to the house couple with your personal injury claim.

Direct Insurance Handling: Property damage-only claims are usually handled directly through insurance companies, as they are faster to settle and typically do not require legal representation.

Separate Claims: Property damage and personal injury are technically two separate claims, often settled at different times.

If your claim involves serious injuries, your personal injury lawyer is equipped to handle the associated property damage. However, if there are no injuries, you may be better off dealing directly with the insurance company.

But the only way to find out is to talk to a lawyer, and the J. Gonzalez Law Firm always provides a free initial consultation. You won’t owe anything unless we handle your case and only if we secure a just settlement on your behalf.

Man faces charges after crashing into home

By: Benjamin Treviño

A Brownsville man is facing criminal charges after he allegedly crashed his vehicle into a home and fled the scene.

19-year-old Anthony Chavez Hernandez was charged February 24 with two counts of failing duty in striking a highway fixture, structure, or landscape. His bond was set at $4,000.

In Texas, drivers whose vehicle hits a highway fixture, structure, or landscaping have a duty to contact the owner and police. Hernandez alledgedly fled the scene and only returned after police and firefighters were on the scene.

The crash occurred in the 2400 block of North Minnesota Road at around 3:00 a.m.

Brownsville police say Hernandez’s car struck a utility pole, and then crashed into the house. The crash brought down a power line, which ignited a fire and caused damage to a room, the roof, and the attic space of the home.

A woman and child were inside the home at the time of the crash, but were reportedly not injured.
