Car crash injuries sometimes require multiple surgeries and long-term care.

When a crash causes long-term injury and multiple surgeries, it is considered a catastrophic injury. These injuries can lead to permanent disabilities, a reduced quality of life, and significant medical, emotional, and financial burdens.

A comprehensive treatment plan typically involves multiple surgeries, extensive physical and occupational therapy, pain management, and psychological support to address the wide-ranging effects on a person’s physical and mental health.

Physical and long-term consequences

Complex injuries: Severe fractures, internal organ damage, and traumatic brain injuries (TBIs) often require multiple surgeries, which can include bone stabilization, organ repair, or brain surgery.

Chronic pain and limited mobility: Long-term issues like chronic pain, joint dysfunction, nerve damage, and reduced mobility are common, impacting a person’s ability to perform daily activities.

Permanent changes: Some injuries, such as severe burns, may result in scarring, while spinal cord injuries can lead to paralysis.

Psychological distress: The stress and anxiety from adapting to new routines and permanent limitations can lead to emotional issues like depression and anxiety.

Treatment and recovery Surgery: Multiple surgical procedures, sometimes occurring simultaneously, are often necessary to repair the damage.

Physical and occupational therapy: A crucial component of recovery, these therapies help manage pain and regain functionality for daily activities.

Pain management: Medications are often prescribed to manage chronic pain.

Psychological support: Counseling, cognitive-behavioral therapy, and other forms of support are vital for coping with the emotional and psychological impact of catastrophic injuries.

Legal and financial considerations

Legal action: Seeking a personal injury attorney is highly recommended to help navigate the complexities of pursuing compensation from the responsible party’s insurance.

Settlements: Settlements for severe, long-term injuries with multiple surgeries can be substantial, potentially exceeding $1,000,000, depending on the facts of the case.

Two remain hospitalized following crash

By: Benjamin Treviño

A woman and her passenger who were involved in a November 7 crash near the Starr-Hidalgo County line remained in critical condition three days after the crash occurred.

According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, the two unidentified victims were in a Ford pickup truck that was struck as it was attempting to make a right turn. The vehicle rolled over at least once, the press report stated.

The crash involved the victims’ truck, a Ford van, and a Tacoma pickup truck, DPS said.

Additionally, the agency said one victim had already undergone two surgeries and another was planned.

The crash occurred in the westbound lane of US 83, just west of the boundary between Hidalgo and Starr counties. In the wake of the crash, the road remained congested for several hours.

No injuries were reported in the other two vehicles involved in the crash. The investigation was continuing at this writing.
