Should I get a medical exam after a car crash even if I wasn’t hurt?
Yes, everyone involved should get a medical examination after a minor accident, ideally within 24 hours.
Adrenaline can mask injuries like whiplash, concussions, or internal bleeding, which may only show symptoms later. A prompt, documented checkup is crucial for diagnosing hidden damage and securing necessary insurance claims or legal protection.
Reasons to Seek Medical Attention Immediately
Whiplash, concussions, and internal bleeding often do not show immediate symptoms, yet they can worsen significantly over days. Adrenaline and shock can hide pain, with symptoms appearing later.
A timely medical record can show that a person’s injuries were caused by the accident, preventing insurance companies from claiming they resulted from a different event.
A gap in treatment, such as waiting too long to see a doctor, can make it difficult for the victim to get fair compensation for, or even prove, the injuries resulted from the crash.
The J. Gonzalez Law Firm recommends that car crash victims be vigilant for headaches, dizziness, neck pain, or stiffness. Symptoms like severe bleeding, vision loss, or vomiting, require immediate care.
